AN OPEN LETTER TO PASTORS IN SUMATRA, JAVA, AND AROUND THE WORLD

The Root Causes of the Conflict Between Gloria Dayun and Me, Which Led the Gloria Dayun Group, Through AGS and HST, Who Are Very Eager to Become PASTORS, to Dare to Remove Me as Their Pastor

The root causes of the conflict are as follows:

1. Gloria Dayun Breached Its Commitment and Withdrew Unilaterally

Gloria Dayun itself requested to become a branch of our church and asked me to serve as their pastor. After I formally inaugurated and ordained them as our branch, 20 members signed a stamped written request for the establishment of the branch and pastoral oversight, witnessed by two witnesses.

I pastored the congregation until the church grew and the church building was fully constructed. However, afterward, they withdrew unilaterally for various reasons, which eventually led to the problems we are facing today.

2. The Inherent Pattern of Defiance Within the Gloria Dayun Group

The Gloria Dayun group has a history of defiance toward its former church. They withdrew unilaterally, allegedly because AGS and HST were disappointed that they were not appointed as church elders.

They then left their former church and invited some members of that church to join them by questioning the integrity of their former pastor. Eventually, this group, which called itself Gloria Dayun, was rejected from becoming part of its former denomination/synod.

3. Inappropriate Provocation by the Siak Regional Chair/BPD Riau, Initials TS

The Chair of the Siak Region/BPD Riau, identified by the initials TS, allegedly provoked the Dayun group by saying:

«“Why use a pastor from Jakarta? You are the ones who worked hard to build the church, so why don't you become the pastors yourselves?”»

4. Alleged Ethnic-Based Intimidation by an Official of BPD Riau

An official within the BPD Riau structure for the 2024–2026 period, possibly identified by the initials JS, is alleged to have engaged in ethnic-based intimidation by prohibiting or obstructing me from serving at a company in Riau as an effort to pressure me.

The alleged intimidation reportedly involved statements that I was not “one of our people” or that I did not come from their ethnic group.

This alleged intimidation appears to have been an attempt to pressure me because BPD Riau was allegedly defending the actions of the Gloria Dayun group in its defiance.

5. BPD Riau Issued an STL Without Identifying Gloria Dayun as a Branch

BPD Riau issued an STL signed by ES and LN without identifying Gloria Dayun as a branch, even though my report clearly stated that Gloria Dayun was a branch of our church.

By omitting the word “branch” from the STL, the document gives the impression that Gloria Dayun is an independent entity. This appears to create an inappropriate opening for an act of defiance.

6. BPD Riau Determined the Assets and Pastor of Our Church Branch in Dayun

BPD Riau for the 2024–2026 period facilitated, and even determined, matters concerning the rights to the assets and the appointment of a pastor for our church branch in Dayun without proper consultation or confirmation.

This was done through a written letter from BPD SU 50, signed by ES and LN.

A Message to Fellow Pastors

Speak up, my fellow pastors, regarding this matter.

Let us not allow practices by certain structural officials, such as those allegedly carried out by BPD Riau during the 2024–2026 period, to be imitated and spread elsewhere.

We have worked tirelessly, even shedding blood and making great sacrifices, to develop the church and uphold the good name of our organization through the branches we have established. Yet, in the end, our own organizational structures can disrupt what we have built, and the matter becomes what we are experiencing today.

«“It may be me who is experiencing this today, but it is not impossible that you could be next.”»

Therefore, speak up, fellow pastors.

Let us work together to ensure that ministry, pastors, and congregations are not treated in ways that cause harm, but continue to function according to the rules, regulations, and ecclesiastical order of the church.

PEMBULLYAN ALA STRUKTURAL GEREJAWI

  I.          Pendahuluan Dalam kehidupan bergereja masa kini, muncul fenomena yang diam-diam melukai banyak pelayan Tuhan: pembullyan ala struktural gerejawi. Ini bukan sekadar perbedaan pendapat atau konflik biasa, melainkan bentuk kekerasan rohani yang beroperasi melalui sistem, jabatan, dan kebijakan organisasi. [1] Pembullyan struktural sering kali tidak tampak secara kasat mata karena dibungkus dalam bahasa yang tampak rohani seperti “penertiban,” “pembinaan,” atau “demi ketertiban gereja.” Bahasa rohani ini kerap digunakan untuk melegitimasi tindakan yang sebenarnya sarat dengan motif kekuasaan, sehingga pelanggaran etis terselubung di balik retorika spiritualitas dan membuat korban seolah bersalah karena menolak tunduk pada otoritas yang tidak adil.” [2] Padahal di balik istilah itu tersembunyi semangat penguasaan dan pelemahan terhadap sesama pelayan.
